Heidelberg (day 1)
We took an early morning train ride down to Heidelberg, especially difficult after a long night at the fireworks show (see an earlier post), and the train was standing room only.
By chance, there is a major astronomy conference happening in Heidelberg, so I was lucky enough to meet up with my grad school advisor for a nice walk, and of course a few beers.
First, Heidelberg is beautiful. There is a hike across the river from the main part of town that has fantastic views of the city - called the philosophers way. The town itself is very small, but the people are a nice mix of students and tourists. Over the city looms a nice castle, which will come up in the next post.
