Who was that team out there?

Where do I start? Seriously? There are so many ways to go with this:

National television embarrassment. ACC embarrassment. Giving the SEC more to brag about. Being completely out-coached. Only top 10 team to lose this week. Allowing Bama to go for 11-17 on 3rd downs, which led to not having the ball for even half the time that Alabama had. Close to 0 yards rushing (though, some of the rushing discrepancy is from being so far behind so early on. I don't blame Davis or Spiller). Harper averaging less than 6 yards per pass. In general looking like we were playing a high school cover 2 with the LBs back 5 yards on every 3rd and short. Our weakness of the O-line being shown how weak it seems (is it zone blocking, though?).

There are a few questions that I can come up with after today's "game."

  • Why did Jamie Harper start the first drive? I really hope he bounces back, and in 3 years will be watching an interview of him talking about that experience as something he overcame.

  • Why do we still use a zone blocking scheme? Can someone tell me what the advantages are? I really don't think this helps our offense.

  • I realize Bowden is a great recruiter, but how can he not change anything after the half? Is he just a terrible gameday coach? Or was he just totally outmatched by Saban?

  • Why didn't the defense realize Alabama was running on what seemed to be 80% of first downs? I hope to check the actual stats on this later.

  • Where was the toughness? As the historically tough school in the ACC, why do we look like such a finesse offense?

  • Does practicing against such an offense make for a "soft" defense?

Ok, so some positives: Bucky hit his 1 fg. Spiller trying to start the comeback (but getting nearly zero touches after). My hazelnut brown ale tastes good. I didn't have to drive to Sucklanta to witness this debacle. VT lost. The next 3 weeks should be wins. The ACC is still up for grabs. Clemson should go for less time without a title than the Caps have, which is now 34 years.

I think we'll end up at 18-20 after this. More later? Cheers...
